Detailed Tutorial

Compare by People Filters

Use your Canvas Filters, to identify and compare people by Country, Device, A specific step on the Canvas, or individual customer journeys!

To begin, we need to apply a Primary filter

  1. Select the Filter button that appears in the top of the left pop up window.

  2. Choose a filter from the options presented (Country, Device, Steps, People)

  3. Click the group you would like to focus on and hit Apply.

    1. Note: If multiple steps are selected, it becomes an "and" statement. Meaning utm_source=facebook is selected AND a post purchase thank you page is selected, you are asking Funnelytics to show you people who came from utm_source=facebook AND landed on that purchase thank you page.

Next we need to set our comparison filter.

  1. Hit the Compare button and select the relevant option that appears.

  2. Once again choose the filter you would like to apply (Country, Device, Steps, People)

  3. Select the group you want to focus on and hit Apply

The primary cohort will be displayed in black, directly below each element on the Canvas, and our Comparison Cohort will be displayed in purple. In the Image below, we see the number of people who view a site from their Desktop vs a Mobile device.

Feature Enhancement - Great news! Our Multi-Step focus takes our "People who performed" filter to new heights by allowing you to add multiple steps to the filter. To use this feature enhancement:

1. Select the "People who performed" filter from the "Filter people by" section.
2. Click on the canvas elements you want to filter by.

Compare two different Date Ranges

In this guide, we'll walk you through the process of comparing two sets of data based on date ranges within Funnelytics. This feature can provide valuable insights into how your data has changed over different time periods.

Understanding the Elements

Before we dive into the steps, let's take a moment to familiarize ourselves with the key elements needed for this task:

  • Main Date Selector: Located in the top bar, this allows you to choose the date range that will be displayed on your canvas.

  • Layer Selector: The layer selector permits you to toggle various layers on and off. Of particular importance is the 'numbers layer,' which reveals numerical data beneath each element on your canvas.

  • Filter Tab: This step, accessible on the side, includes the 'Compare Data By' row, where you can add a comparison filter to your data.

Adding a Comparison Filter

Here's how you can add a comparison filter:

  1. Click the plus icon in the filter step.

  2. Choose between 'date' or 'people.' For this guide, we'll focus on 'date.'

  3. Selecting 'date' will provide you with options to choose either a preset date range or to create a custom one.

  4. The most powerful and commonly used option is 'last period.' This allows you to compare your data to the previous period. It's a convenient choice unless you have a specific use case in mind.

  5. The added convenience of 'last period' is that it automatically adjusts with your canvas date range. When you select a date range on your canvas, the comparison range changes accordingly.

Applying Filters

Once you're satisfied with your date range selections, apply the filters. Your canvas will now display two sets of data, and this is where you'll start deriving insights.

Interpreting the Data

Understanding the data on your canvas:

  • Black Numbers: These represent data from the main date range.

  • Purple Numbers: These represent data from the comparison date range.

  • Traffic Indicator: An indicator tells you whether the traffic increased or decreased from the previous period to the current one. It's a valuable tool for assessing changes in your data.

  • Customizable Thresholds: The numbers in the traffic light system are customizable. By adjusting these numbers, you can change the status indicator. (For example, setting the lower threshold to -15 and the higher threshold to 3 will make anything below -15 appear in red, anything above 3 will appear in green and anything in between will appear yellow)
